Film Profile – Frida

Frida chronicles the life of Mexican artist Frida Kahlo who contracted polio at the age of six, suffered a near fatal trolley-bus crash at 18 and was able to transcend her lifetime of pain and express it in her paintings. She shared her short life with the artist Diego Rivera, her husband and mentor. Together they took the art world by storm. From her complex and enduring relationship with her mentor, her illicit and controversial affair with Trotsky to her romantic entanglements with women Frida Kahlo lived a bold and uncompromising life as a political, artistic, and sexual revolutionary.

“Passionate, provocative, hilarious, tragic and just dizzyingly beautiful to behold” Detroit News

“There have been two great accidents in my life. One was the trolley, and the other was Diego. Diego was by far the worst” Frida Kahlo.
