Classic French Double-Bill Finalised

Details have been finalised for an evening featuring two classic French films on Saturday 29 March 2014. The highlight is Plein Soleil (1960) starring Alain Delon. This is the original film based on the novel by Patricia Highsmith, “The Talented Mr. Ripley”. Those who saw the 2000 version with Jude Law and Matt Damon may think it unsurpassable – but wait until you see this version, made 40 years before!

The other film planned for this amazing French double-bill programme is the fascinating François Truffaut thriller The Bride Wore Black (“La mariée était en noir” 1968) starring the enchanting Jeanne Moreau.

Both films are based on crime or thriller writers’ novels and both films pay homage to Alfred Hitchcock.

The films will be screened at the Powell Theatre and the double programme will start at 5.30 pm with “The Bride Wore Black”. There is a one hour interval between the first film and the second, “Plein Soleil”, which starts at 8.15 pm and finishes at 10.15 pm. There are no refreshments available in the interval so bring a baguette or saunter up/down to the pub during the one-hour break!

Tickets are available from the Sherborne Tourist Office priced at £5-50 each or £10 for both films – if purchased in advance. On the day tickets are available at the door from 5.00pm – 5.30pm and 7.45pm – 8.15pm at £6-00 each. Films start promptly at the stated times and doors may be closed once the performance begins. Any resulting proceeds will be donated to Rotary charities.
